Bill was born October 21, 1946 in Great Falls, MT while his family owned and operated a farm in Malta, MT. At four (4) years old the family moved to Great Falls and he has lived there all his life, except for his years in the Army. Bill graduated from Great Falls High School in 1965 and attended college at Eastern Montana College and Southern Colorado University.
As a youth Bill earned varsity letter honors and his Eagle Scout Badge. In 1967 Bill enlisted in the US Army Corps of Engineers. He attended Basic training at Ft. Lewis, Washington and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Ft. Leonard wood, MO. After graduating from AIT as a combat engineer he was stationed in Vietnam. His first attachment was with the 18th Engineering Brigade of the 27th Engineer Battalion (CBT) who was in support of the 11th Armored Cavalry which operated Iron Triangle. In February of 1968 his Unit was transferred in support of the 101st Airborne which was located in the A Shau Valley. He served in the A Shau until his rotation date in July of 1968. He was then assigned to the 7th Engineer Battalion (CBT) of the 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Ft. Carson, CO. He remained stationed there until his discharge in January of 1970. While at Ft. Carson, Bill met his wife Shirley. After discharge, Bill and Shirley returned to Great Falls where they had a son Jason.
At this time he began his apprenticeship as a Body Man becoming a journeyman after 4 years. He also played a leadership role in the Local 1046 Machinist Union. After ten (10) years Bill opened his own Body Shop which he still operates today. Bill is active in his community as one of the founders and principals of the Local Vets4Vets program and serves his church both as a Church Council Member and the president of the Churches men’s group called Men of Faith. He also facilitates the Combat PTSD group at the local Vet Center.
